Flowering and Pollination

The almond tree is one the first fruit species to bloom. In the orchards of Aragon Farms, according to the stations of the year in the South hemisphere, this happens by the end of July (2/3 of the summer in the North hemisphere), indicating the beginning of the end of winter in this zone of the South hemisphere.

Unlike other species almond trees present the particularity that the floral bloom appear first before the vegetable ones, which translates into flowery fields of outstanding beauty, when seeing itself covered with slightly pinkwhite flowers that have a delicious fragrance.

The almond tree is a non-self-pollinating species (auto-incompatible) a reason why it is indispensable to count on beehives with bees that laboriously carry pollen between the different varieties, allowing the development of the fruit.

The first variety in blooming is the Solano, which happens by the end of the month of July (2/3 of the summer in the North hemisphere), soon, the Non Pareil follows and to finish with the Carmel variety. The period of flowering extends commonly until the end of August (1/3 of the autumn in the North hemisphere).
